Bears' offensive explosion leads to sweep at Northeast

Turning in their biggest offensive output of the season, the Bears exploded for 32 hits and 23 runs Saturday afternoon in Booneville en route to a 16-9, 7-5 MACJC sweep of the host Northeast Mississippi Tigers.
 
The Bears took a 3-0 game one-lead in the top of the third with
Isaiah Davis and Quartez Brown both singling in a run and a Payton Yawn sacrifice allowing the other to cross the plate.
 
The score went to 10-0 in the top of the third. A bases-loaded walk to
Paco Bello sent the first run home. Davis, Yawn, Will Ford and Brown each singled to drive in a run and Michael Buck had a two-RBI hit (Davis later added a third hit).
 
Northeast (21-18, 12-12) got on the board in their half of the fourth, sending eight batters to the plate and to cut the Bears' lead to 10-4.
 
Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning to make the score 12-6. Bello's second hit of the game and a
Kyle Singleton sacrifice fly accounted for the Bears' runs. A single and homer put the Tiger's runs on the board.
 
In the Bears' eighth,
T Tez Cole, on third after a double (the second of his three hits in the game) and a stolen base, scored on a Bello ground out to make the score 13-6.
 
The score went to 16-6 in the top of the ninth when Buck launched a 0-2 pitch over the centerfield fence. Scoring ahead of Buck were Ford (on base with his second hit of the game) and Yawn (on base with his third hit).
 

Brendon Baker picked up the win on the mound for the Bears (11-26, 7-17), giving up six runs on nine hits and two walks in five innings of work. Tyler White had three hits in the game.
 

Zach Dearman and Buck led off the first inning of the finale with back-to-back singles for the Bears. Cole's double to right field scored Dearman with Buck scoring on a White ground out to put the Bears on top 2-0. Davis made it 3-0 in the second inning when he reached base on a one-out single and scored two batters later on a Yawn sacrifice.
 
Bello singled to open the top of the fourth. Scoring later on an error, he increased the Bears' lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers used a hit batter and home run to trim the Bears' lead to 4-2.
 
In the top of the fifth, with Cole on board via a two-out error, White blasted a 1-1 pitch over the fence in leftfield to push the Bears' lead back to four runs at 6-2. The Bears then picked up their final run of the day, and made the score 7-2, in the top of the seventh when Yawn lined a lead-off double to centerfield and scored on scored on Cole's two-out single (his second hit of game).
 
The Tigers made a comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh, sending eight batters to the plate and scoring three runs. But, they would strand two runners on base as the Bears held on for the win.
 

Daren Smith went six innings on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five, to pick up the win for the Bears. Cody Miller surrendered one hit while retiring the other two batters he faced to record the save. Ford and Singleton both had a single for the Bears.
