Lady Bears end season with split at BRCC

The Lady Bears closed out the season Friday afternoon in Baton Rouge with a doubleheader split with Baton Rouge Community College, winning the nightcap 6-0 after falling 3-2 in the opener.
 
In the finale, the Lady Bears led 2-0 after one inning, getting RBIs singles from
Miranda Magee and Jordan McNabb. McNabb would go on to pick up two more hits in the game.
 
The score went to 5-0 in the top of the third when the first of
Madison Parker's two hits drove two runs across the plate and Magee, on base via the second of her three hits, scored on a ground out.
 

Jami Spears singled in the top of the fifth to drive the Lady Bears' final run of the game home.
 

Mikaela Smith went 6.2 innings in the circle, giving up only two hits while walking two and striking out one, to record the win. Kayla McNabb had two hits for the Lady Bears (17-25).
 
The teams were tied 1-1 after one inning of game one.
Ashley Elsensohn started the Lady Bears' first by reaching on an error. She scored later on a passed ball. A single, walk and wild pitch accounted for the BRCC (8-26) run.
 

Melanie Crum got the Lady Bears' third inning started with a base hit. Scoring three batters later on a ground out, she put the Lady Bears on top 2-1.
 
The score remained 2-1 in the Lady Bears' favor until the bottom of the seventh when BRCC used a single and homer to get the walk-off win.
 
The loss came despite the performance of
Kassie Shipley. In 6.1 innings, she surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out two.
 

Tia Bussey, Terrah Nelson and Magee each had a single for the Lady Bears. Magee finished her career with the Lady Bears as the team's career record holder for stolen bases (37) and triples (6) while Kayla McNabb set the single-season mark for hitting with a .409 average.
