Coahoma takes two from Bears

It was a long day on the diamond for the Bears as they were swept at home in an MACJC doubleheader, 7-3 and 10-5, by the Coahoma Tigers. Game two went nine innings.
 
The Tigers sent eight batters to the plate and took a 3-0 first-inning lead in game one. The Bears made it 3-1 in the bottom of the frame when
Michael Buck doubled with two outs and scored on a T Tez Cole base hit. Buck also had a single in the game.
 
Trailing 4-1, the Bears scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Nathan Yennie reached on a dropped third strike to start the inning before scoring later on a wild pitch. Quartez Brown walked with one out and scored later on Cole's sacrifice fly to make the score 4-3.
 
The Tigers (21-17, 9-11) took a 6-3 lead in the top of the sixth and added a solo run in the top of the seventh to close out the scoring.
 

Brendon Baker took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits and four walks. He struck out five batters. Isaiah Davis had a single in the game.
 

Payton Yawn lined a one-out double to left field in the bottom of the first in the finale before scoring on a Cole base hit to put the Bears up 1-0.
 
The Tigers put two runs on the board in the second inning and added three more in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
 
The Bears (9-24, 5-15) tied the game at 5-5 in their half of the sixth. Cole blasted a two-run homer to left field,
Tyler White singled to drive in a run and Kyle Singleton, on base via a walk, scored on a fielder's choice.
 
With neither team able to score in the remained of regulation play, the game went into extra innings. Sending nine batters to the plate, the Tigers scored five runs in the top of the ninth before retiring the Bears in order in the bottom of the inning to secure the sweep.
 

Cody Miller allowed one run on one hit in less than an inning on the mound to take the loss for the Bears.
 
The Bears will play their final home games of the season, and hold Sophomore Day, on Tuesday, April 24, with a 3:00 conference twinbill against Mississippi Gulf Coast.
