The Bears took the 6th-ranked Pearl River Wildcats to the brink in Poplarville Tuesday, stunning their hosts with a come-from-behind 10-7 win in the opener before a game-two rally fell short in a 9-6 loss.

Pearl River sent seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the second in game one, resulting in a 4-0 lead.

Tyler White's RBI double scoring T Tez Cole in the third inning and a solo homer from Quartez Brown in the fourth narrowed the Bears' deficit to 4-2.

The game became tied at 4-4 in the Bears' fifth when
Michael Buck led off with a homer to leftfield. Kyle Singleton's RBI double then scored White, on base via a single. Singleton also had a single in the game.

Pearl River (26-6, 12-2) took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth, but the lead would be short-lived.

In the Bears' sixth, Cole's second hit of the game drove home a pair of runs. White then blasted a three-run homer of the fence in leftfield to put the Bears on top 9-5.

In the top of the seventh, Brown's sacrifice fly allowed
Nathan Yennie, on base via a leadoff walk, to cross the plate to extend the Bears' lead to 10-5.

A Pearl River single and two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh cut the Bears' lead to 10-7. The Bears then held on to win by the same score.

Ethan Campo picked up the win on the mound for the Bears, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk in six innings of work. He struck out six batters.
Gage Kiser struck out two batters and walked one in just over an inning to record the save.

In the finale, Pearl River held a 4-0 lead before the Bears got on the board in the top of the fourth. Yennie and
Will Ford both had an RBI double and Buck drove home two with a single to even the game at 4-4 (Buck would end the game with three hits).

Pearl River went back on top, 6-4, with a pair of runs in their half of the fourth. They went on to hold a 9-4 lead after six innings.

The Bears (8-19, 5-11) made the home crowd nervous in the top of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs to pull to within 9-6. Cole led off with a single and scored two batters later on a Singleton base hit to left. Later in the inning, pinch runner
Aaron Ragsdale scored from third when Ford reached on a fielder's choice. That would be the last gasp for the Bears as Pearl River held on for the close win.

Matthew Graves took the loss for the Bears, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks in 4.1 innings on the mound. He struck out three batters.

Payton Yawn had two singles for the Bears.

The Bears are next scheduled to hit the field on Saturday in Fulton as they take on the Itawamba Indians.
