The Bears picked up a pair of wins over the visiting Highland Community College Cougars Friday evening, scoring twice in the seventh to take game one 7-6 before taking game two 13-0 in five innings.

A two-RBI double from
Kyle Singleton put the Bears on top 2-0 in the bottom of the first in the opener. The Cougars answered in the top of the second, using a pair of walks, three hits and a passed ball to take a 3-2 lead.

A two-out double from
Paco Bello, scoring Payton Yawn, in the Bears' half of the fifth tied the game at 3-3.

The Cougars (2-10) again answered, sending nine men to the plate in the top of the sixth and scoring three runs to move back on top, 6-3. In the bottom of the inning,

T Tez Cole reached base on a walk before scoring when Tyler White reached on a fielder's choice. White then scored on an error to trim the Bears' deficit to 6-5.

A wild bottom of the seventh allowed the Bears to score the tying and winning runs, with two outs, without benefit of a hit.
Zach Dearman reached base on a dropped third strike and later scored on a passed ball. A bases-loaded wild pitch then allowed Cole, on base via a walk, to score from third to give the Bears (3-7) the narrow win.

Cody Miller retired three of the four batters he pitched in his one inning of relief to record the win. Isaiah Davis had two hits for the Bears.

The nightcap was all Bears. A sacrifice fly by
Michael Buck sent Bello scampering home from third to put the Bears on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first.

The score then went to 2-0 in the bottom of the second when Singleton picked up the first of his two hits; he later scored on an error.

In the bottom of the third, the Bears picked up five more runs to increase their lead to 7-0. Dearman singled to score one run, Bello had an RBI double and the first of two Yawn singles drove in a run. Bases-loaded walks to Davis and
Reid Havard accounted for the other two runs.

The Bears then scored the final runs of the game in the fourth inning. Cole singled to drive in a run and later scored when Davis reached on a fielder's choice. An error allowing
Aaron Ragsdale to reach third also allowed Singleton to cross the pate. Three additional errors in the inning then allowed the final three runs of the game to reach home.

Brendon Baker picked up the win on the mound, scattering four hits while striking out four in five innings of work.

The Bears take time off for Spring Break before returning to the diamond, and opening MACJC play, on March 17 with a home doubleheader against the Holmes Bulldogs. Game one is set for a 2:00 first pitch.
