Soccer Bears' season ends with tough 3-2 loss in NJCAA Regional

The season came to a heartbreaking end for the Bears soccer team Saturday afternoon as they fell to the Bengals of LSU-Eunice, 3-2, in an NJCAA Region 23 playoff game in Ellisville.

With the loss, the Bears ended the best season in program history with a 13-4-1 mark, tying the program record for wins and setting numerous other program records (they were 5-3 in the MACJC South). Eunice moved to 8-2-2.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead at 8:08 of the game when Felipe Madero took a pass from Patrick Larsen and finished near post.

Eunice knotted the game at 1-1 at the 12:55 mark and the score stayed that way until the 44:09 mark. At that point, Nate Bond crossed the ball to Larsen who, with the outside of his foot, one-touched the ball to Madero who sent it into the goal to leave the Bears on top 2-1 at intermission.

Eunice scored at 53:44 to tie the game at 2-2 and punched what proved to be the winning goal into the net at 80:07.

"It was a tough way to end the season," said Bears head coach Alex Brown "I can't properly articulate how much these boys mean to me. In the short time I've been with them, I've grown to love them so much."

"We made history this season," Brown continued, "so we're very proud of that, but at the same time it hurts. We have a lot to build on from this season and I'm eager to see that the future holds for Southwest men's soccer."

Brown ended his post-game remarks by saying "Thank you again to all the parents, family and friends for your support this season. You guys have been awesome."
