Homecoming 2018 ended on a sour note for the Bears as they were defeated by the Pearl River Wildcats 37-9.

The Wildcats took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter of play and were on top in the second quarter before the Bears were able to get on the scoreboard. Da'Bryan Magee fired a 49-yard scoring pass to Anthony Jones with 7:40 on the second quarter clock. The extra point kick was blocked, leaving the Bears trailing 21-6.

With 0:55 on the clock, Brazos Webb booted a 31-yard field goal for the Bears that put them on the downside of a 21-9 score at the end of the first half.

The Wildcats (1-6, 1-4 in the MACJC South) added another touchdown in the third quarter. They scored their final touchdown, along with a 36-yard Will Lang field goal in the fourth quarter to reach their final margin of victory.

"It took us a long time to get on track, offensively," said Bears head coach Tim Stowers. "We dropped a touchdown pass early in the game which could have helped us stay in the game."

"We just aren't good enough to run the ball inside the tackle box to put the fear in a defense yet ," Stowers went on. "So, we're average at this point. We've gotten better from the first game to now, but we're still just very average right now. That's my fault; I'm the coach. But, I still think the future looks bright for our team and our program."

Magee completed was 6-21 passing for the Bears (1-7, 0-5 South) for 129 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Jones caught two passes for 68 yards and a score. Damarcus Mitchell carried the ball four times for 29 yards

The Bears had 11 first downs in the game. Jack Runnels punted eight times for a 35.5 yard average.

Ron Thompson topped the Wildcats' offense with 125 rushing yards, and a pair of touchdowns, on 13 carries. Cooper Callis was 9-12 passing for 170 yards with a two touchdowns.

The Bears return to the field on October 18 when they travel to Fulton to face the Itawamba Indians.
