Bears fall to host Hinds

It was another tough night for the Bears as they dropped their second game, this time 97-91 on the road to the Hinds Bulldogs in MACJC South Division action.
 
The Bears led the entire first half. An Antonio Cowart, Jr., layup, with 14:50 on the clock, left them on top 18-12 and a Roydell Brown trey with 13:12 before the half left put them on top 25-17.
 
Jeremy Harrell's layup started the Bears (12-3, 3-3) on an 8-0 run late in the half that resulted in their biggest lead of the first half, 46-34, with 3:41 showing. Hinds scored eight of the final 10 points of the half to pull to within 48-42.
 
The Bears scored 17 of the first 25 points of the second half. An old-fashioned three-point play from John Knight III, with 16:09 left in the game, left the Bears with their largest lead of the game, 65-50.
 
Hinds (4-8, 2-4) trailed 73-61 when they began their comeback. A 22-5 run saw the hosts go on top 83-79 with 7:57 remaining.
 
The Bears tied the game at 89-89 on a pair of Ricardo Lynch free throws, with 2:36 left in the game. But, Hinds would go on to outscore the Bears 8-2 the remainder of the game to pick up the win.
 
Knight, III, led the Bears' offense with 22 points. Cowart, Jr., registered 18 points, along with nine assists, while Harrell scored 15 points and Brown had 12. The Bears went 21-30 from the free throw line.
 
Nakia Rivere scored 24 points for Hinds to lead all scorers. Hinds made 13 of 20 free throws.
 
The Bears head to Perkinston on Monday for their next game. Tipoff for the South Division matchup is set for 7:30.
