Bears win at Meridian, 82-61

The Bears led for all but 1:09 Saturday afternoon enroute to an 82-61 MACJC South Division win, their fourth straight victory, over the host Meridian Eagles. With the win, the Bears moved to 12-1 overall and 3-1 in the South.
 
Meridian took its only lead of the game, 2-1, with 18:29 left in the first half. The Bears then outscored their hosts 12-6 over the next 3:58. A
Ricardo Lynch layup, with 14:31 on the clock, to move out to a 13-8 lead.
 
With 10:21 before the half, a
Robert Boyd three pointer put the Bears on top 18-12. Meridian then scored eight of the next 10 points to knot the game at 20-20 with 7:23 to play before the break. The Bears (12-1, 3-1) then exploded for a 21-4 run, sparked by a Howard Smith trey and capped by Lynch free throw, to move out to a 41-24 lead at the end of the half.
 
After Meridian cut the Bears' lead to 41-28 early in the second half, buckets from Smith and
Roydell Brown pushed the lead back to 17 points, 45-28, with 18:23 on the clock.
 
The teams traded baskets for the next several minutes before a long-range jumper from Lynch left the Bears on top 55-36 with 13:22 to go. Three free throws from
John Knight III increased the Bears' advantage to 62-42 with 10:03 showing.
 
After Meridian (4-9, 1-3) trimmed the Bears' lead to 67-52, with 5:31 on the clock, Knight III scored nine straight for the Bears to leave them on top 76-52 with 4:01 to play. 
 

Aleksa Dobrijevic nailed a three pointer, with 2:37 left, to give the Bears their largest lead of the contest, 79-53. They went on to claim the 21-point decision.
 
Knight III scored 26 points to lead the Bears to the win; for good measure, he also blocked five shots. Brown had 20 points and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Lynch and Smith both netted 11 points. The Bears made 23 of 37 free throws.
 
Timothy Lacey had 23 points to lead Meridian. He and his teammates made went 20-22 at the free throw line.
 
The Bears look to get their fifth straight win Monday night when they host arch-rival Co-Lin. The South Division battle is scheduled for 7:15 start. Bears' fans are asked to wear navy blue.
