The home turf was unkind to the Bears Thursday night as they dropped a 61-20 MACJC South Division contest to the Jones County Bobcats.

The Bobcats took an early 7-0 when a
Juwan Adams pass was intercepted by Fred Peters and returned 17 yards for a touchdown with 14:43 left in the opening quarter. Mike Kroeze kicked the extra point.

The Bears quickly responded, with Adams tossing a 51-yard touchdown pass to
Anthony Jones to close out a four-play, 77-yard drive. Gunar Robinson booted the PAT to tie the score at 7-7 with 13:09 on the clock.

It did not take long for the visitors to regain the lead as they took the ensuing kickoff and marched 67 yards in five plays. Scott Phillips ended the drive with a 17-yard scoring run with 11:23 before the end of the quarter. Kroeze added the PAT to put the Bobcats (4-1, 2-0 South) on top 14-7.

A three-yard dash into the end zone by
Chase Hughes, with 8:13 before the end of the quarter, brought the Bears back to within 14-13. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful.

The Bobcats registered a safety, with 5:01 showing, to increase their lead to 16-13. Detric Hawthorn's 31-yard scoring run with 2:25 on the clock, along with Kroeze's extra point, then left them on top 23-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Five touchdowns in the second quarter, one coming as a result of a fumble by the Bears, along with five PAT's from Kroeze, had the Bobcats on top 58-13 with 1:42 left before the half.

The Bears (0-5, 0-2) then put together one more scoring drive. Adams and Jones connected for a second time in the game, this time on a 30-yard touchdown pass, on the last play of the half. Robinson added the extra point to make the score 58-20 at intermission.

A 46-yard field goal, with 8:00 before the end of the third quarter, was the only scoring of the second half and left the Bobcats with their final margin of victory.

"Obviously, we've got to do a better job of coaching and emphasizing it (the importance of not turning the ball over)," said Bears head coach Tucker Peavey in reference to his team's two lost fumbles and interception. "We battled back. But, you make so many mistakes like that and it's just hard to overcome it."

Hughes carried the ball 12 times for the Bears and recorded 89 yards along with a touchdown.
Milton Sanders had 55 yards on nine carries.

Adams completed five of 19 passes for 115 yards and a pair of scores. He was intercepted once. Jones caught four passes for 108 yards and the two touchdowns while
Marcel Cole, Jr., had a seven-yard catch.

The Bears picked up seven first downs in the game and were penalized four times for 30 yards.

Chris Weaver paced the Bobcats' offense, completing 10 of 16 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.

The Bobcats totaled 14 first downs on the night and were penalized six times for 55 yards.

The Bears remain at home for game number six, hosting the Pearl River Wildcats for Homecoming on October 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00.
