Bears suffer tough losses at Northwest

Despite outhitting the host Northwest Rangers 11-9 in the opener, the Bears suffered a tough 6-5 defeat. The Rangers completed the MACJC doubleheader sweep with a 6-2 win in the nightcap.
 
Game one was scoreless until the top of the fourth when T Tez Cole led off with a double to right field, the first of his two hits in the game, and scored two batters later on Austin Moen's two-base hit to put the Bears on top 1-0. Moen would later add a single.
 
A solo homer in the Rangers' half of the fourth tied the game at 1-1. They would add three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage.
 
The Bears would regain the lead at 5-4 in the top of the eighth when John Marcus McDowell launched a 1-0 pitch over the right field fence for a grand slam. Scoring on the play were Cole, Scooter Ginn and Alex Smith
 
The Bears (12-17, 1-13) suffered heartbreak in the bottom of the eighth when a single and pair of doubles resulted in two runs scoring and giving the Rangers what proved to be the winning runs.
 
Kyle Coleman took the loss on the mound with 3.1 innings of relief. He allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks. He also struck out three batters.
 
Ginn had two singles in the game while Andrew Beesley and Chance Groue both had a double. Fidel Bello and Brantley Hughes both had a single.
 
Ginn's two-out homer to left field put the Bears on top 1-0 in the top of the first in the finale. A bunt single by McDowell scored Groue, on base with a single, in the top of the second to increase the Bears' lead to 2-0.
 
A Rangers' homer in the bottom of the fourth cut the Bears' lead to 2-1. The Rangers (20-12, 8-6) would then use a pair of singles, two doubles and a walk to score three runs and take a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Two more runs in their half of the sixth would give the Rangers their final margin of victory.
 
Josh Merchant was saddled with the loss for the Bears. He gave up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and a walk while striking out six batters in 5.2 innings on the mound. Beesley single twice for the Bears.
 
The Bears return home for their next action when they host the Pearl River Wildcats on April 11. Game one of the MACJC doubleheader it scheduled to get underway at 3:00.
