#5 Gulf Coast sweeps Lady Bears in Summit

The fifth-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs took an MACJC doubleheader from the Lady Bears Wednesday afternoon in Summit, capturing game on 4-1 before taking the finale 5-1.
 
The losses dropped the Lady Bears to 16-17 overall and 12-6 in the conference. Gulf Coast climbed to 27-8, 16-2.
 
The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second in game one. The Lady Bears tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third when
Miranda Magee reached base after being hit by a pitch and scored two batters later when Jenna Duff reached on an error.
 
Gulf Coast responded with two runs in the top of the fourth to increase their lead to 3-1. They added the final run of the game in the top of the sixth.

Kassie Shipley went the full seven innings in the circle, giving up four unearned runs on 10 hits and a walk, to get the loss. She struck out one.
 

Amy Bonvillain, Jordan Fitzgerald, Kristie Sanchez and Magee each had a single for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears trailed 4-0 in the finale before scoring their only run in the bottom of the sixth. Bonvillain, on base with her second hit of the game, scored on
Lauren Walker's double.
 
Gulf Coast then added a solo run in the top of the seventh to reach the final score.
 

Rebecca Davis took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bears, allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks in seven innings of work. She struck out four batters. Magee had a single in the game.
 
The Lady Bears will face the Itawamba Lady Indians Saturday, in Fulton, for their next contests. Game one is set to get underway at 1:00.
