#14 Itawamba sweeps Lady Bears in Fulton

The 14th ranked Itawamba Lady Indians swept an MACJC doubleheader from the Lady Bears in Fulton Saturday afternoon, taking game one 5-4  and the finale 3-0. Game one went eight innings.

Itawamba (25-9-1, 14-4) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Bears responded with a pair of runs, coming on
Kassie Shipley's base hit, to go on top 2-1.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the fourth,
Jordan Fitzgerald sent a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left field to put the Lady Bears (16-19, 12-8) back on top, 3-2. Fitzgerald later added a single.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Itawamba tied it at 3-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lady Bears took the lead once again in the top of the seventh when
Amy Bonvillain's line drive double, her second hit of the contest, scored Baylee Bryant to make the score 4-3.

A run in the Itawamba half of the seventh tied the score at 4-4 and forced extra play. A single and two-out error in the bottom of the eighth then allowed the winning run to cross the plate for the hosts.

Shipley took the complete-game loss in the circle, giving up five runs (one earned) on eight hits and a walk. She struck out one batter.

Itawamba scored the only run they would need in the finale in the bottom of the third. They would go on to score a single run in the fifth and another in the sixth to complete the sweep.

Rebecca Davis took the loss for the Lady Bears, allowing all three runs (two earned) on only four hits (with three walks) in six innings of work. The Lady Bears were limited to a single from Jenna Duffand one from Jeney Hudson.

The Lady Bears remain on the road for their next games as they travel to Raymond on April 11 to face the Hinds Lady Eagles. Game one of the conference double dip is set for a 2:00 first pitch.
