Bears split doubleheader at Delgado

A three-run first propelled the Bears to a 3-1 game-two win over the host Delgado Dolphins and a split in their doubleheader in New Orleans Wednesday night. Delgado took the opener 4-1.

With the split, the Bears moved to 6-2 on the season while Delgado moved to 9-3.

Andrew Beesley got things started for the Bears in the finale with a leadoff single, the first of his two hits in the game. He then moved to second when Payton Yawn reached base on an error before another Dolphins miscue then allowed both to cross the plate. A Scooter Ginn single and line drive double from T Tez Cole accounted for the final run. Ginn would later add another base hit as would Cole.

A leadoff walk, hit batter and base hit in the bottom of the fourth inning resulted in the Dolphins' only run of the game.

Kyle Coleman pitched 4.2 outstanding innings for the Bears to get the win. He allowed only two hits and a run while striking out six and issuing three bases on balls.
Josh Merchant struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh to record the save.

Zach Thomas had a double and single in the game.

An error and double allowed the Dolphins to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in the opener. They would add another run in their half of the fifth and two more in the sixth to increase their lead to 4-0.

The Bears got their only run of the contest when Cole blasted the first pitch he saw in the top of the seventh over the fence in left field.

The loss came despite the performance on the mound of starting pitcher
Tyler Pigott. Through six innings, he surrendered five hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out five and walking a pair.

The Bears and Dolphins will meet again Saturday in Summit for another doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 first pitch.
