BOX SCORE

The Bears saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge as they dropped a 77-72 decision to host Baton Rouge Community College.

BRCC (10-4) took an early 4-0 lead and was on top 16-7 with 14:06 left in the first half. A jumper by
Mike Parks, Jr., brought the Bears back to within four, 19-15, with 12:02 on the clock and Rodrick Sikes' free throw with 8:40 left the Bears down 22-19.

The teams traded baskets the rest of the half and went into the break with BRCC holding on to a 37-29 advantage.

The Bears (6-3) outscored BRCC 14-8 to open the second half and tied the game at 43-43 on Sikes' three-pointer with 16:15 left. However, BRCC then scored 12 of the next 15 points to go up 55-46 with 13:06 remaining.

The teams traded baskets for the next several minutes before the Bears were able to draw to within four points, 65-61, on an
Antonio Cowart, Jr.., layup with 5:32 to go.

A 9-3 "mini run" by BRCC left them with a 76-63 0:34 on the clock. Back-to-back three-pointers from
James Hawthorne helped the Bears pull to within five, 77-72, with 0:09 showing, but they could come no close as BRCC held on for the win.

"I think today we definitely saw the rust from (not having played for a month)," said Bears head coach Thomas Gray. "I didn't think we ever had control of the tempo of the game."

"We need to limit our turnovers," Gray went on, "and I believe that comes from us being in more control of the tempo. It was good to see the things we are needing to improve on heading into division play next week."

Sikes went 8-14 from the field, including 6-11 from three-point range, and 4-6 from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 26 points. Hawthorne followed with 13 points while Parks, Jr., finished with 10. The Bears went 8-15 from the free throw line.

Isaiah Boissard led BRCC with 20 points. He and his teammates hit 17 of 19 free throws.

The Bears return to the court Monday night in Mobile as they face the Spring Hill JV in a 6:30 contest.
