Home standing Bears drop a close one to Meridian

The Southwest Bears tasted defeat for the first time Tuesday afternoon when they dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the visiting Eagles of Meridian. 

With the loss, the Bears dropped to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the MACJC South Division. Meridian moved to 4-0 and 2-0.

All the scoring in the game came in the first half. Meridian went up 1-0 on Pedro Dutra's goal in the 16th minute.

The score remained the same until the 30th minute when Jaime Delor scored on a header after taking a pass from Francisco Alisiardi to knot the game at 1-1. Meridian then scored what proved to be the winning goal when Donja Smith found the back of the goal in the 34th minute.

The Bears return to action Friday when they travel to Poplarville to face the Pearl River Wildcats. Action is set to get underway at 7:00.
