Bears move to 3-0 with win at Holmes

The Southwest Bears made their first road trip of the young season a successful one Tuesday as they remained undefeated with a 3-1 victory over the Holmes Bulldogs in Ridgeland. The win moved the Bears to 3-0 while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-3.
 
After battling to a 0-0- tie at the half, the Bears took a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute when Francisco Alisiardi took a pass from Morris Aitken and fired the ball into the upper right 90. The score went to 2-0 only two minutes later when Joey Barrick took an across-the-field pass from Maximiliano Gigli and shot the ball into the lower left corner of the goal.
 
After Holmes made it 2-1 in the 65th minute with a goal from Rolando Sanchez, Aitken scored inside the box on a ball deflected by the Holmes keeper to give the Bears their final margin of victory. Derrick Houstonpicked up the assist.
 
Kade Jenkins allowed only the one goal while saving seven shots on goal.
 
"It was a tough, physical game," said Bears' head man Zach Mills, "but, their (the Bears') hard work paid off. We weren't playing our game in the first half and it was obvious we were struggling. I appreciate my guys working hard through every distraction and showing their resilience in the second half."
 
The Bears begin South Division play Friday night in Ellisville as they face the Bobcats of Jones County.
