Bears start season with 2-0 home win over East Central

The Southwest Bears opened their 2016 season on a high note Friday afternoon as they defeated the visiting East Central Warriors 2-0. East Central dropped to 1-1.

The Bears took an early 1-0 lead with less than 2:00 off the clock. Taking a pass from Morris Aitken, Jaime Delor used his speed with the ball and his agility to cut, leading to an easy finish. Aitken then scored the final goal of the day at the 20^th minute. Phillip Mallet recorded the assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Kade Jenkins picked up the shutout, saving six shots on goal.

"I'm thrilled with our performance," said Bears head coach Zach Mills. "Our guys trusted each other on the field (and) played well together. They worked the full 90 (minutes) and we came out with the win."

The Bears return to action Saturday, August 27, with a 3:00 home matchup against the Northwest Rangers.
