Bears drop a pair at Itawamba

The Bears dropped a pair of one-run MACJC decisions to the host Itawamba Indians Saturday afternoon in Fulton, falling 4-3 in game one and 5-4 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Bears trailed 1-0 before getting a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the third inning.
L.D. Coney walked and scored on a Brady Anderson double, the first of his two hits in the game. Anderson then scored on a Ross Buckley base hit.

Two singles, a double and a home run in the bottom of the sixth ended with the Indians (21-15, 9-11) on top 4-2. In the top of the seventh,
Zach Giacona led off with a single, moved to second on Dylan Spiers' sacrifice bunt and scored on Coney's single to bring the Bears to within a run at 4-3. But, they would be unable to score again as the Indians held on for the win.

Tyler Pigott took the loss on the mound for the Bears, giving up four runs on 11 hits. He struck out four batters. Duncan Cornfoot and Darian Tunstall both had a single for the Bears.

The Indians took a 3-0, first-inning lead in the finale. The Bears made it 3-1 in the top of the second when Anderson's sacrifice fly allowed
John Marcus McDowell to reach the plate. McDowell was on base as a courtesy runner for Kaleb Clarke who had doubled for the first of his three hits in the game.

The Bears (18-16, 7-11) scored three times, and took a 4-3 lead, in their half of the fourth inning. Spiers reached base on an error that allowed McDowell to score. A bases-loaded walk to Coney sent
Alex Smith across the plate. Buckley singled with the bases full, the second of his three hits in the game, to score another run.

Two singles and a walk produced a run for the Indians in the bottom of the fourth and left the teams deadlocked at 4-4.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when, with one out, the Indians won the game on a walk-off homer.

Spiers took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks. He struck out three batters. Coney had two hits in the game while Spiers also hit safely.

The Bears return to action Tuesday when they travel to Raymond to face the Hinds Eagles. Game one is scheduled for a 3:00 start.
