Round one of the Coca-Cola Baseball Challenge set for Tuesday

A pair of press conferences was held last week, in McComb and Brookhaven, as a pair of old foes prepare to renew their fierce rivalry when the Bears and Co-Lin Wolves meet on the baseball diamond Tuesday evening in Wesson.

The single, nine-inning game will serve as round one of the 12th annual Coca-Cola Baseball Challenge presented by Powerade. The schedule calls for a 5:00 first pitch.

The Challenge was formed by the members of the "Chasing Foul Balls" radio show (on WAKH 105.7FM, K106) with three goals in mind, according to Neil Randall. He said the CFB crew wanted to "expose more people to community college baseball, with an emphasis on Southwest and Co-Lin, have fun and donate money to both programs." Those goals have been reached many times over and, to date, over $24 thousand dollars have been raised and split between the two teams.

To help assure that fans in attendance have fun at the games, the CFB crew has special guests available to throw the first pitch before each game. Also, in between each half inning of each game, prizes will be given away.

Speaking for the Bears, head coach Ken Jackson thanked "Coca-Cola, K106, the local media and Neil Randall for their support of Southwest" and expressed his gratitude for all they have done over the years to promote the Challenge.

McComb Coca-Cola On-Premise manager Gary Nelson also spoke to those in attendance at both press conferences to say that McComb Coca-Cola was proud to be a continuing sponsor of the Challenge and hoped it would continue for many more years.

Games two and three of the Challenge are set for Wednesday, March 16, at Southwest with the opener that day scheduled for a 3:00 first pitch.
