Box Score Game 1
Box Score Game 2

The Bears baseball team got their season off to a good start Tuesday evening in Alexandria, LA, with a 10-9, 7-6 sweep of the LSU-Alexandria JV squad. Game two was decided in eight innings.

After seeing their hosts take a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Bears used five hits, three walks, and three errors to bat around and take a 9-1 lead in the top of the second. The Bears' first run came when
Kaleb Clarke reached on a lead-off walk and later scored on Tanner Whittington's base hit to centerfield.

Clarke reached base on another LSU-A error to start the top of the fourth inning and later scored on another Whittington single to give the Bears a 10-1 lead.  Whittington would later add a double.

LSU-A fought back to make a game of it, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fourth on four hits, an error, three walks and a hit batter to make the score 10-8. They then added the final run of the game in the sixth inning.

LSU-A loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to score as the Bears held on for the win.

Tyler Pigott picked up the win on the mound. In 3.1 innings, he gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out four.

Clarke had a triple and single and scored three runs.

The Bears trailed 4-0 in the nightcap before tying things in the top of the third.
Ross Buckley drove in three runs on a two-out, bases-loaded triple and scored himself on Clarke's base hit. Buckley would later add a double.

In the top of the fourth,
Alex Smith reached base via a lead-off walk and later scored on a bases-loaded fielder's choice. Later in the inning, Dylan Spiers scored on      Walt Aldridge's line drive out to centerfield to put the Bears up 6-4.

Two walks and a ground out led to an LSU-A run in the bottom of the fourth that made the score 6-5. Using a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly, the hosts then tied the score at 6-6 in their half of the seventh.

The Bears scored what would prove to be the winning run in the top of the eighth when Smith led off with a double to right field and scored on
L.D. Coney's second hit of the game, a two-out double to left

LSU-A put a runner on base with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but, once again, the Bears were able to hang on to claim the win.

Ryan Holland pitched an inning, allowing one run on three hits and striking out one, to get the win for the Bears. Spiers struck out three of the four batters he faced in the eighth to record the save.

Aldridge had two singles in the game and drove in a run for the Bears.

The Bears will take a few days off before returning to the diamond. They travel to Pineville, LA, on February 16 to face the Louisiana College JV team in a twin bill set for a 4:00 first pitch.
