Bears fall 75-72 at Mississippi Delta

Missing a three-pointer with 0:07 left to play, the Bears suffered a tough 75-72 loss to the home standing Mississippi Delta Trojans Monday night in Moorhead.
 
With the loss, the Bears dropped to 1-1 on the young campaign. The Trojans moved to 1-1.
 
The Bears took a 3-0 lead on Guy Johnson's trey with 18:48 left in the first half. They later went up by five before the Trojans came back to take a 13-11 lead with 13:35 on the clock.
 
Going on a 7-0 run, capped by Rodrick Sikes' free throw, the Bears regained the lead at 18-13 with 12:07 before the break.
 
With the Bears trailing 22-21 and 6:21 on showing, Sikes nailed a three-pointer to key an 11-2 run to close out the half. Mike Parks, Jr.., hit a free throw with 0:12 on the clock that allowed the Bears to hold a 32-24 advantage at intermission.
 
Parks, Jr., nailed a jumper with 0:05 off the second-half clock to give the Bears a 34-24 lead. The Trojans then outscored the Bears 24-14 over the next 8:40 to tie the force a 48-48 tie with 11:15 still to play.
 
With 9:34 to go, the Bears held a 57-52 lead only to see the Trojans regain the lead, 59-58, with 6:30 to play.
 
With the game tied 69-69, the Trojans scored six straight points to go up 75-69 with 1:55 to go. Sean Smith hit a three-pointer with 0:57 remaining to make the score 75-72. The missed three-pointer then allowed the Trojans to escape with the narrow win.
 
Johnson topped the Bears' offense with 21 points. Sikes and Parks, Jr., were also in double figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively. The Bears made good on 15 of 22 free throws.
 
The Trojans' Xavier Appleberry led all scorers with 25 points. The Trojans hit 19 of 32 free throws.
 
The Bears take a few days off before making their home debut Monday, November 14, against Baton Rouge Community College to close out day one of the Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic. The game is set for a 7:15 PM start.
