The Bears saw their win streak snapped at five Thursday night with a 73-68 loss to the host Jones County Bobcats in Ellisville.

With the loss, their first in five road trips, the Bears dropped to 9-5 overall and, at 4-2, into a four-way tie for second place in the MACJC's South Division (with East Central, Jones County and Pearl River) behind Gulf Coast.

After an
Emanuel Thompson free throw gave the Bears an early lead, the Bobcats quickly raced out to a 10-6 advantage with 16:18 left in the first half. With 14:11 on the clock, Terrell Miller scored to cut the Bears' deficit to 12-10.

A 10-0 run gave the Bobcats (9-4, 4-2) a 26-14 lead with 7:50 before the break and they extended their advantage to 30-17 with 3:58 left.

With 2:20 left in the half,
Mario Doyle's three-pointer brought the Bears back to within seven points, 30-23. But, the Bobcats scored six of the half's final eight points to take a 36-25 lead into the locker room.

The Bears opened the second half on a 13-5 run, capped by a
Bryce Baker trey, to pull back to within three points, 41-38, with 14:59 left in the game. The hosts then scored nine of the next 12 points to move back up by eight, 50-52, with 12:13 to play.

Another Baker three pointer and back-to-back jumpers from Miller narrowed the Bears' deficit to 52-50 with 8:30 on the clock. But, the Bobcats again answered to go up 58-50 with 7:21 remaining.

The Bears would draw back to within four points twice during the remainder of the game, but the Bobcats would answer each time and managed to hold on for the five-point victory.

"It was a tough night," said Bears' head man Thomas Gray. "A couple of things didn't go our way, but I'm proud of the guys' effort. Obviously, it was a very tough situation, being on the road. We've done a great job of overcoming adversity (during the season), but tonight we just didn't seem to be able to do so."

"I was very proud of the guys for their fight," Gray went on. "We just couldn't get the ball to fall."

Baker's season-high 16 points led the Bears' offense. Thompson had 14 points and seven rebounds while Miller was also in double figures with 12 points. The Bears struggled at the free throw line making only eight of 18.

Jones County's Christian Robertson led all scorers with 18 points. The Bobcats made 16 of 21 free throws.

The Bears return to the home court Monday night as they close out the first half of South Division play with a 7:15 contest against East Central.
