Bears pick up 1-0 win at Holmes

The Southwest Bears picked up their first win of the 2015 soccer season Tuesday when they blanked the host Holmes Bulldogs 1-0 in Ridgeland. The Bears will return to action Thursday when they visit the East Central Warriors for a 3:00 match in Decatur.
 
Southwest (1-0-1) and Bulldogs (1-1) were scoreless through the first 52:00 minutes Tuesday. Then, at 53:00, Jonathan Schmaltz played the ball through the back line and Tristan Garriga took one tough and finished near post to give the Bears all the offense they would need.
 
Bears' keeper Bryant Boyington played the full 90:00 and had eight saves in picking up the shutout.
