Bears drop a pair at Northwest

The Southwest Bears dropped an MACJC conference doubleheader in Senatobia as the host Northwest Rangers won game one 6-3 and took the finale 6-5.
 
The Bears return to action Wednesday when they travel to Perkinston for a conference twinbill against Mississippi Gulf Coast. Game one is set for a 3:00 first pitch.
 
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in game one Friday when a Northwest error, putting
Ross Buckley on base, allowed
L.D. Coney to score from third. Buckley later scored on the first of two Duncan Cornfoot base hits.
 
Northwest (19-8, 12-4) tied the game with a pair of runs in their half of the third and used three singles and a three-run homer to score four runs in the sixth and take a 6-2 lead.
 
Coney scored the Bears' final run in the top of the seventh after reaching base on a two-out single, his second hit of the game, and racing home on
Walt Aldridge's double.
 

Jordan McCaffrey took the loss on the mound in relief, giving up a pair of runs and two hits in less than an inning of work. Buckley had two hits in the game and drove in a run. Kaleb Clarke had a double while Brady Anderson also hit safely.
 
The Bears (11-17, 4-10) took a 2-0, first-inning lead in the nightcap when
Jarvis Warner scored on Trent Gordy's sacrifice fly. The first of two Tanner Whittington hits sent Buckley across the plate. The Rangers answered with a two runs of their own in the bottom of the first tie knot the game at 2-2.
 
A Whittington sacrifice fly in the top of the third allowed Warner to score, to put the Bears on top 3-2. But, the Rangers quickly answered, scoring four in the bottom of the frame to take the lead, 6-3.
 
The Bears made it 6-4 in the fourth when
Steven Williams walked with two outs. A Coney base hit and Ranger error then sent Williams home. The Bears then scored the final run of the game in the top of the seventh when Warner scored from third on a balk.
 
Starter
Jacob Buchanan took the loss for the Bears. In just over two innings on the hill, he allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks.
 
Aldridge and Buckley both had two hits for the Bears. Williams picked up a double while Anderson and Coney both had a single.
