Lady Bears take two from Mississippi Delta

The Southwest Lady Bears got back into the win column Saturday afternoon as they swept visiting Mississippi Delta 12-1 and 10-0. Both games were called after five innings.
 
A lead-off walk by JESSIE PENTON and LEYTON TERRELL's one-out single to left field gave the Lady Bears (8-6, 2-0 South) a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one.
 
Down 2-0, the Lady Trojans (0-8) used two base hits in the top of the third to make the score 2-1. AUSTIN PRUITT's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame made it 3-1.
 
The Lady Bears held a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth when SARAH ROBERTS hit a lead-off home run to center field, her third long ball of the season, to make it 8-1.
 
The Lady Bears closed things out with four runs in the bottom of the sixth when LEANN JACKSON blasted a Lady Trojans' pitch over the fence for a grand slam, her first-ever home run.
 
KEELY FORTENBERRY pitched three innings to pick up the win in the circle. She allowed one run on four hits while striking out two.
 
BROOKE CHAFFEE had a double and single in the game while JESSICA PIPKINS hit safely twice.
 
In game two, doubles from Jackson and Pipkins and singles from MACY FULTON and SHADEN MILLER helped the Lady Bears take an 8-0 lead after one inning. Two base hits and two Lady Trojan errors aided the Bears in scoring two more in the bottom of the second.
 
Fulton went the distance in the circle, allowing only one hit and striking out five, in picking up the win for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears are scheduled to return to the diamond Tuesday against arch-rival Co-Lin. Game one of the South Division matchup is set for 3:00.
