Lady Bears swept at Pearl River

The MACJC South Division schedule got off to a sour note for the Southwest Lady Bears Friday as they were swept at Pearl River, 8-0 and 4-2.
 
The losses dropped the Lady Bears to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the South while Pearl River climbed to 12-5 and 2-0.
 
The Lady Bears were down 1-0 in the finale before getting on the board in the top of the third. AUSTIN PRUITT singled and JESSIE PENTON walked with one out. After both moved up a base on a ground out, JESSICA PIPKINS' single to center field sent both home and gave the Lady Bears a 2-1 lead.
 
The lead was short-lived, however, as Pearl River used two hits and an error to score a run and tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. They then used two singles, a double and a walk to score two more in the bottom of the fifth and went on to take the win.
 
Pipkins and PAYTON LEWIS both singled twice in the game while LEYTON TERRELL also hit safely. MADDY TEAGUE gave up four runs, two earned, and nine hits in six innings in the circle to take the loss. She struck out one batter while walking three.
 
In the opener, a double and two singles gave Pearl River a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. They went on to score seven more in the sixth to close out the game.
 
The Lady Bears were limited to singles from SHADEN MILLER and Penton. MACY FULTON took the loss in the circle, giving up seven runs (only one earned) on five hits and two walks. She struck out four.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 doubleheader against visiting Mississippi Delta.
