BOX SCORE

The Southwest Bears suffered a tough 66-58 loss to the Southern-Shreveport Jaguars Tuesday night to close out the 2015 Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic.

The first half was a battle from the opening tip and featured six ties as well as 13 lead changes. The Jaguars' biggest lead came when they went up 3-0 on Dangelo McClinton's trey under 1:00 into the game.

The Bears held two three-point leads, the last (33-30) coming on a
Rodrick Sikes basket with 1:12 left in the half. McClinton nailed another three pointer for the Jaguars, with 0:02 on the clock, to send the teams into the locker room tied at 33-33 at the break.

The Bears (3-3) seemed to take firm control of the game to start the second half. With baskets from Sikes and

Guy Johnson serving as book ends, they opened the final 20:00 on a 12-1 run to move out to a 45-34 lead with 15:56 left in the game.

But, the Jaguars (5-3) would not go away. Methodically working their way back into the game, the visitors went on a 12-3 run to pull back to within two points, 48-46, with 10:17 on the clock.

The next 7:00 were much like the first half with a tie and nine lead changes. The Bears took their final lead, 58-57, on
Terrell Miller's jumper with 4:25 remaining.

A Darrion Jacobs layup then put the Jaguars on top, 59-58, with 3:21 to go and they went on to close out the game on a 9-0 run to record the win.

"It was good to see the way our guys responded the first of the game against a really good Southern-Shreveport team," said Southwest head coach Thomas Gray.

Gray said that after the Bears took their 11-point lead in the second half, they had two players (
Joseph Coleman and James Hawthorne) go down with injuries and said "that really cut into our depth in the post, just hurt us down the stretch. It was a situation where we just needed the depth. Some guys had to step up and play long minutes on a night's rest and that definitely showed down the stretch."

Miller had 18 points to lead the Bears in scoring. Sikes recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Bears were good on 11 of 15 free throws.

McClinton topped all scorers with 23 points for the Jaguars. The visitors hit 15 of 25 free throws.

The Bears return to action and make their first road trip of the year Saturday in Mobile as they face the Spring Hill College Badgers. Tipoff is set for 4:00.
