Bears shut out Co-Lin, 5-0, in Wesson

A strong first half, featuring two goals from freshman Morris Aitken, propelled the Southwest Bears to a 5-0 win over arch-rival Co-Lin Tuesday night in Wesson.
 
The win moved the Bears to 6-6-1 overall and, at 3-3 in the MACJC South, kept them in the thick of the chase for a spot in the upcoming state/regional playoffs. Co-Lin fell to 0-11 and 0-5.
 
Aitken picked up his first goal of the night, and put the Bears up 1-0, at 21:06 the match when he took a pass from Tristan Garriga and scored on a shot from outside the 18.
 
An unassisted goal from Garriga at 38:02 extended the Bears' lead to 2-0 and it went to 3-0 when, with an assist from Whit Davis, Aitken picked up his second goal at 42:12. Tristen Nicholson closed out the first-half scoring at 44:53 with his seventh goal of the season, with an assist from Jonathan Schmaltz. Aitken and Nicholson are tied for the team lead with seven goals and 15 total points.
 
Brock Andrus scored the only goal of the second half, with an assist from Clifford Zayzay, to give the Bears their five-goal margin of victory.
 
The Bears had 13 shots on goal in the game. Keeper Bryant Boyington saved the only two shots on goal by Co-Lin.
 
The Bears stay on the road for their next match, traveling to Ellisville Friday to face Jones County. The match is set for a 7:00 start.
