Bears defeat visiting Co-Lin, 3-2, in overtime

The ball finally bounced the way of the Southwest Bears Friday afternoon when they picked up a 3-2 overtime home win against their arch-rivals, Co-Lin. The win moved the Bears to 1-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the MACJC South Division.
 
Co-Lin took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Hoby Mullins and Blayne Jones. The Bears made it 2-1 at the break when Eric Woodard picked up his second goal of the year on a lucky deflection that came to his feet off a pass from Ignacio Cruz.
 
The Bears tied the match at 2-2 at 53:00 of the second half when Denver Bankston found the mark on a penalty kick with Woodard receiving credit for the assist. The match stayed tied through the remaining 37:00, forcing the teams into overtime.
 
Both teams had chances to prevail in overtime, but neither was able to close out the match until the Bears' Brenden Nicholson scored the winner at 8:00 of the extra frame. Woodard recorded his second assist of the game.
 
The Bears totaled 15 shots on goal in the match while goalie Bryant Boyington saved three of four Co-Lin shots on goal.
 
The Bears remain at home for their next contest as they host Pearl River in an South Division matchup on Tuesday. Action is set to begin at 4:00.
