Lady Bears drop two games to East Central

East Central swept the home standing Lady Bears in an MACJC South Division doubleheader Monday afternoon, winning game one 13-3 and taking the nightcap 2-0.

The Lady Bears take a few days off before returning to action on March 19 when they travel to Meridian Community College for a 2:00 doubleheader.

The Lady Bears (4-13, 0-6) were down 6-0 before putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the third in the opener Monday. Marisa Pruski singled to centerfield with one out, advanced to second on a Chelsea Nette hit, to third on a steal and scored on a Harley Myers base hit. Nette moved to third base on the play and scored on a play at second base. Myers later scored on an East Central error.

That would be as close as the Lady Bears would get as East Central (16-6, 4-4) added three more runs in the fifth and seventh innings and a solo run in the sixth.

Maddy Teague pitched 2.2 innings to take the loss for the Lady Bears. She surrendered six runs, four earned, on four hits while striking out three and walking four. Leanne Jackson and Kristen Gekler also pitched. Gekler added a base hit.

The Lady Bears outhit East Central 6-5 in the finale, but were unable to push any runs across the plate. The Lady Warriors scored both of their runs in the top of the second inning.

The loss came despite the performance of pitcher Abi Hall. She allowed only five hits over her seven innings in the circle. She struck out one and walked one.

Payton Lewis had two singles for the Lady Bears while Hall, Pruski, Nette and Jessica Pipkins also hit safely.
