Southwest softball falls at Pensacola State

The Southwest Lady Bears dropped a 17-2 decision in five innings to host Pensacola State Community College Thursday afternoon. The second game was cancelled due to rain.

Pensacola State used seven hits, two walks and three Southwest errors to take a 10-0 inning after the first inning. The Lady Bears got their runs in the top of the second. Kristen Gekler led off the frame with a single and later scored on Marissa Jenkins' base hit to center. Two batters later, Jessica Pipkins, on base via an error, reached the plate on Mary Margaret McLaurin's sacrifice fly.

That would be it for the Lady Bears (2-1) as Pensacola State added two more runs in their half of the second, one in the third and four more in the fourth inning.

Gekler took the loss in the pitching circle. Leann Jackson and Maddy Teague also pitched. Payton Lewis had a single for the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears travel to Brewton, AL, today for single games against Jefferson Davis Community College and Northwest Northwest Florida State Community College. They will then face Jefferson Davis in a doubleheader on Saturday.
