Bears fall twice at Gulf Coast

 
 It was a tough day at the ballpark for the Southwest Bears on Tuesday as they dropped a pair of South Division games on the road at Mississippi Gulf Coast, 8-2 and 6-2.
 
Five base hits and an error allowed the host Bulldogs to take a 5-0 lead in the first inning of game one. They added another run in the third to go up 6-0.
 
Southwest (11-17, 4-4) closed the gap to 6-2 in the top of the fourth inning when Aaron Moore walked and Darron McKigney singled with one out and both scored on a double to right by Connor Goodspeed. But, Gulf Coast (17-13-, 5-5) answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame for the final runs of the game.
 
Moore took the loss on the mound for the Bears, allowing five runs on four hits. He was relieved on the mound by Shelby Johnson. Johnny McKenzie tripled for Southwest and Kade Scivicque added a single.
 
In the finale, a Ben Slaton homer helped Gulf Coast take a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Bears picked up their pair of runs, to make the score 5-2, in the top of the fifth Jawon Jackson scored on a bases-loaded walk to Scivicque. McKenzie, who was on base via a walk, then scored when Moore grounded out to second. The Bulldogs picked up their final run of the day in the bottom of the inning.
 
Scivicque took the loss for the Bears as he gave up five runs on five hits. He struck out two batters and walked one. Jeffery Courville and Tyler Kendrick also saw time on the mound. Austin Terrell had two singles and German Hays added one for the Bears.
 
Southwest returns to action Saturday when they travel to Ellisville to face the Jones County Bobcats in a 2:00 doubleheader.
