Bears drop 4-1 decision at Pearl River

The Southwest soccer teams suffered dual defeats at Pearl River Saturday as the Lady Bears went down 6-0 and the Bears 4-1. The loss dropped the Lady Bears to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the MACJC South Division. The Southwest men fell to 1-8-2 and 1-3-1.

In the men’s game, Pearl River held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half on the strength of Kyle Gifford’s goal at 40:00. A Tyler Hatch goal at 52:00 made the score 2-0. The Bears got their only goal at 81:00 with a goal from Bryan Stewart-Bennett. Paul Johnson assisted. That would be as close as the Bears could get as Pearl River added goals at 82:00 and 89:00.

Southwest returns to action on Tuesday when they host Mississippi Gulf Coast. Game times are 2:00 for the women and 4:00 for the men.
