Brenton Jones enters his first season as an assistant coach on the Bears staff. He comes to Summit following a two-year stint at Petal High School as an assistant coach.
Before that, he was at Jones College with the women’s basketball program as a student assistant.
The Taylorsville native graduated from Jones College in 2023 with an Associates degree.
He is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in sports coaching from the University of Southern Mississippi.
While at Jones, the Bobcats compiled a 51-12 record over two seasons. The 2021-2022 team won the MACCC Tournament Championship, Region 23 Championship and reached the final four of the NJCAA National Tournament – which was the farthest the school had ever reached. The 2022-2023 Bobcats won the MACCC Championship, MACCC Tournament Championship and the Region 23 Championship. Seven players from this team signed to play D1. Some of his roles were managerial duties, being a practice player, organizing a practice team and running individual workouts.
While at Petal he was an assistant boys’ basketball coach. In his first season, the Panthers won 17 games, 11 more than the previous year. Some of his roles there included scouting, game and practice planning, player development, video, and overseeing academics.
