Deontay Evans is in his second season as defensive backs coach with the Bears football program. He comes to Summit following a two-year stint at East Central Community College where he was the Safeties and Nickels Coach.
A McComb native, Evans graduated from McComb High School in 2012 where he was a First Team All-State selection as a defensive back and was regarded as the No. 1 ranked athlete in the State of Mississippi for the 2012 class.
After graduation, Evans attended Mississippi State where he was a three-time letterman and a member of top-five nationally-ranked defenses in 2013 and 2014. He was also a member of the Bulldog team that earned a No. 1 national ranking in 2014. He also earned MSU’s Special Teams Player of the Week honors in both 2013 and 2015.
Following a three-year run in Starkville, Evans moved on to Middle Tennessee State as a graduate transfer.
During his collegiate career, he played in numerous bowl games: The 2012 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, The 2013 Music City Bowl, The 2014 Orange Bowl, The 2015 Belk Bowl and the 2016 Hawaii Bowl.
When his collegiate career wrapped, Evans got into coaching spending the 2017-18 season as a volunteer defensive backs coach at South Pike High School. During the 2019-20 season, he was a graduate assistant cornerbacks coach at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. From Black Hills, he moved on to East Central.
Evans holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Mississippi State University.
