Lady Bears sweep Coahoma on the road

Southwest Mississippi Softball traveled to Clarksdale on Friday, April 17th to take on Coahoma in a doubleheader that saw Southwest win 13-3 and 6-3.

Allie Ladnier started on the mound in game one for the Lady Bears.

Ladnier pitched 2.0 innings with no hits or runs allowed before turning pitching duties over to Tye Boone.

Boone pitched 3.0 innings with 4 strikeouts.

Skyler Turnage pitched the final inning with 1 strikeout and no hits or runs allowed.

Southwest found a big lead early after going up 7-0 in three innings.

Jana Phillips singled to start the scoring and go up 1-0 over Coahoma.

Bailey McLin singled next to score 2 more and extend the lead to 3-0.

Back to back singles from Alexis Dejean and Kate Clements put the Lady Bears up 5-0 in the second inning.

Corin Talbot singled in the third to score 2 more runs and give Southwest a 7-0 edge over Coahoma.

A Tristan Allen double in the sixth inning scored another Lady Bear run to move the score to 8-2.

In the top of the seventh, Allie Ladnier scored Bailey McLin and Aubre Martin after reaching on an error.

Kaigyn Kulas doubled a few at bats later to score 2 more runs and give Southwest a 12-3 lead.

The Lady Bears would go on to win game one 13-3.

Kate Clements and Jana Phillips led the team with 3 hits each. Tristan Allen, Bailey McLin, Corin Talbot, and Alexis Dejean had 2 hits apiece. Six other Lady Bears had 1 hit as well.

Kate Clements, Bailey McLin, Corin Talbot, and Allie Ladnier each had 2 RBIs in game one. Alexis Dejean, Kaigyn Kulas, Tristan Allen, and Jana Phillips each had 1.

Tristan Allen (x2), Bailey McLin, and Kaigyn Kulas all had doubles in the contest.

Jana Phillips stole 2 bases in game one.

Allie Ladnier pitched all of game two after leaving game one early.

Ladnier pitched all 7.0 innings with 5 strikeouts and only 3 runs allowed.

After three innings, the Lady Bears found themselves tied 2-2 with Coahoma.

The 2 Southwest runs came on hits from Alexis Dejean and Corin Talbot.

A Tristan Allen double cleared the bases in the fifth inning to give the Lady Bears a 5-2 lead.

The final run came on a Kate Clements ground out and the Lady Bears would go on to win 6-3 to sweep Coahoma.

Bailey McLin, Corin Talbot, and Allie Ladnier each had 2 hits in game two. Alexis Dejean, Tristan Allen, Mary Claire Salley, and Lauryn Roebuck all had 1 hit.

Tristan Allen led the team with 3 RBIs. Corin Talbot, Kate Clements, and Alexis Dejean each had 1.

Corin Talbot and Tristan Allen both had a double in the contest.

Lauryn Roebuck stole a base in game two.

"All in all, to go get a sweep on the road in our conference is what we needed to do to put us a step closer to our goal of getting to the regional playoffs, and that's been our goal all year," said Head Coach Shea Johnson.

The Lady Bears (27-13, 14-10*conference) will travel to Wesson on Tuesday, April 21st to play Co-Lin in a conference doubleheader. The Lady Bears also received votes this week for national ranking.
