Box Score Southwest Mississippi Men's Basketball played the Pearl River Wildcats at home on Monday, February 23rd in a 63-59 win.

Chidi Nwosu kicked off the scoring for the Bears with a three pointer as the first score of the game for either team.

Shortly after, a Leano Rolle behind the back pass turned Cy Merrett slam hyped up the crowd to continue the Southwest scoring.

The final ten minutes of the first half was back and forth with six lead changes, one coming from a Jay Kennedy three pointer that put the Bears up 21-20.

The Wildcats scored in the final seconds to take a 27-23 lead over Southwest going into the halftime break.

Courterius Scott opened up the second half with a three pointer only 12 seconds in.

A Leano Rolle three pointer would give the Bears the lead with 18:36 remaining, but the Wildcats answered quickly taking back the lead with 18:26 and holding onto it for over 17 more minutes.

The Bears stayed within a few points of the Wildcats during the final ten minutes, yet they stayed just out of reach.

Foul trouble for the Wildcats led to 8 made Bear free throws in the final 4:47 to play with Andre Ngomabie making 4 of them.

A Courterius Scott bucket tied the game 57-57 with 2:32 remaining in the game, and 2 Ngomabie free throws gave the Bears the lead with 1:43 left.

The Wildcats quickly tied the game back up at 59-59 before a Courterius Scott pull up bucket would give the Bears a 61-59 lead with a minute to play.

Good Bear defense kept the Wildcats from scoring again, and a Courterius Scott final make with 0:05 left on the clock put the Bears up 63-59 and the game out of reach for Pearl River.

Chidi Nwosu led the Bears in scoring with a 21 point and 12 rebound double double. Courterius Scott and Cy Merrett followed with 13 and 10 points of their own. Leano Rolle also had 12 rebounds.

"I was proud of our guys to be able to just stay together and figure it out when we didn't have a great offensive game," said Head Coach Corey Schmidt.

The Bears (14-14, 8-4*conference) look to keep the ball rolling as they travel to Meridian on Thursday, February 26th to play Meridian Community College.
