Three walk-off wins cap off a 4-0 week for Bear Baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Southwest Mississippi Baseball played Alvin Community College in a three-game series across Thursday and Friday, February 12th and 13th.

Southwest won all three games 5-4, 4-3, and 13-3 with each ending on a walk-off hit and score from the Bears.

Game one was on Thursday and saw Andrew Hoff start on the mound for Southwest.

Hoff had 3 strikeouts with 5 hits allowed in three innings pitched.

The mound also saw action from Konnor Cazenave, Will McLeod, and Dom Smith with Smith putting up 4 strikeouts of his own.

Finally, Nik Carney took the mound to eventually pick up the win for the Bears.

The defensive game one battle game down to the bottom of the ninth inning.

Alvin held a 2-0 lead through the first four innings then a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth before a Tanner Moore double scored a run to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.

In the bottom of the ninth, Luke Simmons opened the inning with a double to get into scoring position. Jonathan Miller sacrificed for Simmons to advanced to third base. Down to the final out,
Tanner Moore singled on a ground ball to the first baseman, scoring Simmons in the process and winning the game for the Bears 5-4.

JD Hidalgo had 3 hits in game one. Tanner Moore and Drew Swan each had 2 hits both including a double. Tristain Haynes, Luke Simmons, and Cam Bolden all recorded 1 hit.

Tanner Moore had 2 RBIs while JD Hidalgo, Jonathan Miller, and Tristain Haynes each had 1.

JD Hidalgo, Jonathan Miller, Tristain Haynes, and Tanner Moore all stole a base in the contest.

Game two of the series was on Friday at noon.

Rhyson Carroway started at pitcher for the Bears in game two recording 7 strikeouts on 3 hits and 2 runs allowed.

Matt Newman, Wyatt Garrett, and Nathan Carter saw time on the mound allowing 4 hits with no strikeouts.

Nik Carney once again picked up the eventual win for the Bears with 3 strikeouts on 1 hit allowed.

Game two was another low scoring defensive battle that was tied 2-2 after 3 innings.

The Bears runs game from Tanner Moore scoring from third after an error by the shortstop, and Robbie Hokamp batting in Justin Domiano on a ground out to first.

The next three innings remained scoreless until each team scored one run in the seventh inning with Southwest's coming on an RBI from a JD Hidalgo double.

Coming down to the bottom of the tenth inning, the Bears continued looking for a way to put the game away.

Once again, Luke Simmons opened the final inning with a double to put himself in scoring position. Landon French sacrificed to advance Simmons to third base.

Then, Jonathan Miller was subbed in to bat for Tristain Haynes with the game on the line.

With one out, Jonathan Miller placed a perfect bunt down the first base line scoring Luke Simmons for the walk-off win while also reaching first safely in time.

The Bears small ball skills paid off once again with back to back walk-off wins versus Alvin Community College.

Luke Simmons had 2 hits in the game in addition to his game winning run. Tanner Moore, Justin Domiano, Drew Swan, JD Hidalgo(2B)  and Jonathan Miller (game winner) all had 1 hit in game two.

Robbie Hokamp, Justin Domiano, JD Hidalgo, and Jonathan Miller all had 1 RBI.

Tanner Moore (x2) and Justin Domiano each stole bases as well.

Game three followed immediately after game two.

Brian Hankinson started on the mound for the Bears in game three.

Hankinson recorded 5 strikeouts and picked up the win for Southwest.

Easton Boyte pitched two innings and had one strikeout.

Alden Spencer pitching one inning and picked up the save for the Bears.

The Bears offense was on fire in game three in what would end in a 13-3 walk-off run rule win for Southwest.

Justin Domiano had 3 hits followed by Robbie Hokamp and Tanner Moore each with 2 hits. Cam Bolden, Sam Tumminello, Drew Swan, Jonathan Miller, Tee Robinson, Tristain Haynes, and
Hayes Loper all had 1 hit each.

Justin Domiano also had 3 RBIs followed by Sam Tumminello with 2. Six other Bears recorded 1 RBI each.

Justin Domiano, Robbie Hokamp, and Tanner Moore each had 2 stolen bases in game three with Cam Bolden having 1 of his own.

A Cam Bolden single in the bottom of the sixth scored Tee Robinson for the Bears 13th run activating the run rule against Alvin resulting in yet another Bear walk-off win.

"Those were three really tough games," said Head Coach Jack Edmonson, "I was proud of the desire to win we showed and the execution in big moments. Our offense is starting to come around as guys get more at bats. We are looking forward to continuing to build each game."

The Bears improve to 7-2 and go on the road to Perkinston on Tuesday, February 17th to take on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Holmes Community College in a doubleheader.
