Following Tuesday's thrilling sweep of Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston, the Bears were unable to hang on to the momentum at home Wednesday falling to Delgado 4-1 in Game 1 and 10-0 in Game 2.
"I thought that we played well, played competitive but we didn't give ourselves a chance in the second game," Southwest head coach Jack Edmonson said.
In the opener, the Bears (14-25) fell behind 1-0 in the second when the Dolphins got an RBI double.
Southwest kept fighting and the hard work paid off in the fifth when Cam Bolden singled to center bringing Cody Presley home, tying the game at 1.
However, in the sixth, the Bears lost the momentum as the Dolphins plated two more runs to take a 3-1 advantage.
After the deficit grew to 4-1 in the top of the seventh, Southwest was unable to answer in the bottom half of the inning, sealing the game.
Bolden led the Bears with a hit and an RBI.
In Game 2, the Bears found themselves down early as the Dolphins rallied for five runs in the first inning.
Southwest tried to respond and threatened with two runners on base as Gage Hinnant singled and Lane Steinwinder doubled, but they were unfortunately stranded.
The deficit grew to 6-0 in the second following a solo home run before Delgado added four more runs in the third.
Another pair of runners got on for Southwest in the third as the Bears tried to get their offense going, but they were unable to be brought home.
Hinnant led the Bears going 2-for-2.
Southwest returns to action on Saturday with a road doubleheader at Northwest with Game 1 slated for a 2 p.m. start.
