Bears go down to BRCC

Things did not go well for the homestanding Bears on the final day of the Coca-Cola Classic as the Baton Rouge Community College Bears came to town and left with an 84-64 victory Tuesday night.

The game was tight for the first few minutes with four lead changes in the first 2:30.

Baton Rouge, however, took a 6-5 lead with 17:30 to play in the first half and was never headed the remainder of the night.

The visitors took a 39-21 lead with 2:46 on the clock and led by the same margin at the end of the half, 45-27.

Unfortunately, for the Southwest Bears (2-6) things stayed the same throughout the second half. Baton Rouge took their largest lead of the night, 68-40, with 9:26 left in the game and went on to claim the 20-point win.

Courterius Scott led Southwest in scoring with 32 points. Cy Merrett was also in double figures, with 13 points, while Jaylen Haliburton scored 11 points.

Southwest made 11 of 24 free throws.

Southwest returns to action on November 21 when they travel to Bossier Parish Community College for a 6:00 matchup.
