Bears battle No. 19 Gulf Coast to a scoreless draw

Going into Tuesday's non-conference slate with host Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Bears wanted to keep the ship steered in the right direction. Not only did they enter the contest undefeated in the young season, but also drew votes in the NJCAA Div. II Men's Soccer Rankings earlier in the day.

And despite being locked into a tough, physical battle with the No. 19-ranked Bulldogs, neither team scored and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

"It is tough to play on the road especially against such a good team, they are the No. 19 team in the nation right now," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said. "They are very, very good so we are happy with the result. Both teams had chances and it could have gone either way but we stuck it out until the end."

Reigning two-time MACCC Conference Goalkeeper of the Week Loan Marin finished with another strong performance for the Bears (3-0-1) logging his third clean sheet of the season through the first four contests. Tuesday night he had six saves.

Southwest had eight different players register shots with four being on goal, led by Sergio Padin who had two.

The Bears will wrap their non-conference slate Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they visit Hinds.
