The Lady Bears continued their stellar play at home Wednesday getting big days offensively from Anne Claire Sistrunk, Kayci Beth Wallace and Kacey Stampley and superb pitching from Mia Pumila, Lana Dalton and Emme Wallace, picking up 12-2 and 8-0 wins over Southeastern Baptist.
"Anytime you get to play at home and get a sweep at home, that is what it is all about," Southwest head coach Shea Johnson said.
Despite not having a full roster, the Lady Bears (4-2) showed very few flaws. Offensively Sistrunk led the charge in Game 1 going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
"In the first game, I just got up there and I was just thinking 'hit the ball,'" she said. "I just made good contact three times."
Sistrunk's first hit came in the first inning when she matched what teammate Rowan Braley did earlier in the inning, posting an RBI single as hers scored Braley, giving Southwest a 2-0 advantage.
After Morgan Gras was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, ensuing batter Londyn Robertson hit into a fielder's choice allowing Abby Myers to score, making it a 4-0 game.
On the mound, starter Mia Pumila fed off of that momentum, retiring three of the four batters she faced in the second, keeping the Lady Chargers at bay.
Her offense provided additional help the following inning when Sistrunk tallied her second RBI single of the game, driving in Shaylee Ingram.
Another three out of four inning for Pumila kept the momentum on the home side, then it was the offense's turn to follow suit.
Singles by Kayci Beth Wallace and Kayleigh Necaise kicked off the bottom half of the third before they both touched home on an Ingram double to right putting Southwest up 7-0. Next up was Stampley who crushed a line drive over the center field wall for a two-run home run making the score 9-0.
The hits kept coming for the Lady Bears as later in the inning, Wallace and Necaise not only recorded their second singles of the third but this time they were both RBI hits as Wallace's scored two and Necaise's one giving Southwest a 12-0 lead.
Dalton came on in relief and even though she got two quick outs in the first three at bats, a fielding error by the Lady Bears resulted in two unearned runs. Despite the two Lady Charger runs, Dalton did not let that bother her one bit as she quickly regrouped and got the third out preserving the Game 1 win for the Lady Bears.
In addition to Sistrunk's big game, Sarah Stockstill and Wallace also posted three hits in the contest. Wallace also had two RBIs in addition to two runs scored. Pumila went 4.0 innings, giving up only two hits and no walks while striking out five.
In Game 2, Emme Wallace got the start and immediately made an impact retiring three of the first four that she faced.
Her offense provided immediate help as well as Stampley flew out to center but it allowed Lilli Robertson to tag and score giving Southwest a 1-0 lead.
Southwest's second run also came via Stampley as she led off the third with a no-doubt solo shot over the right field wall for her second home run of the day and third of the young season, pushing the Lady Bear lead to 2-0.
"I guess I just had a good day at the plate," said Stampley who finished 1-for-2 in Game 2. "I felt that we were getting our bats going. We were having some trouble with that but today, we had a very, very good day. I felt like we needed to get something started and I just went up there thinking go hit the ball and I hit it."
The Lady Bears followed that up with additional offense the following inning. With runners on second and third, Lilli Robertson hit a sacrifice ground out plating one run but a wide throw back home allowed another run to score running the Southwest lead to 4-0.
After walks to Braley and Stampley, Sistrunk hit a two-RBI single to center making the score 6-0.
Braley made her presence known once again the following inning with an RBI triple then scoring during the ensuing at bat on a passed ball plating the walk-off run for the Lady Bears.
Kayci Beth Wallace capped off her big day with two more hits and two more runs scored in Game 2. Lilli Robertson also had two hits a run scored and two RBIs. Both Stampley and Sistrunk also finished with two RBIs apiece.
As a team, the Lady Bears did not strike out once in Game 2.
Southwest is back in action Tuesday with a road double-header at Coastal Alabama – North. Game 1 is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
