3rd-ranked Gulf Coast takes two from 17th-ranked Lady Bears

It was a tough outing on the diamond for the 17th-ranked Lady Bears Thursday as they suffered a pair of tough MACCC losses to 3rd-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast, 6-2 and 10-6.
 
With the losses, the Lady Bears dropped to 17-11 overall and 9-9 in the conference. Gulf Coast climbed to 21-7, 17-1.
 
The Lady Bears trailed 1-0 in the opener before Mel Lewis reached on a one-out triple in the bottom of the 4th and scored when Ashleigh Rowland hit into a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Both teams scored a run in the 5th, the Lady Bears on a two-out double by Halee Jenkins, to make the score 2-2.
 
Gulf Coast took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6th and added the final runs of the game in the top of the 7th.
 
Jensen Gremillion took the complete-game loss, giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits and six walks. She struck out eight batters.
 
In game two, Gulf Coast led 3-0 before the Lady Bears got two runs on an error and another on a Madison Moak base hit to tie the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the 2nd. Moak later added another single.
 
A Shelby Mason RBI double in the 3rd and a two-run homer from Bailey Buckley in the 4th put the Lady Bears on top 6-3.
 
Gulf Coast added a run in their half of the 5th to close the gap to 6-4. They then sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the 7th, resulting in six runs and what proved to be the final score.
 
Gremillion took the loss in relief, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits in an inning. She struck out two batters.

The Lady Bears look to get back into the win column on April 11 when they host Mississippi Delta in a conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for a 2:00 first pitch.
