Lady Bears split at Northwest

The Lady Bears split a crucial MACCC doubleheader with Northwest Mississippi Sunday afternoon in Senatobia, winning the opener 3-1 before falling 15-7, in five innings, in the finale.
 
With the split, the Lady Bears moved to 20-16 overall and 12-14 in the conference. Northwest moved to 15-13 and 12-12.
 
Northwest took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning of game one. The Lady Bears then tied it at 1-1 in the top of the 4th when Jenna Brock led off with a single and scored two batters later on Bailey Buckley sacrifice fly.
 
In the top of the 6th, Brock reached base on a two-out single (the last of her three hits in the game) and scored on a Jade Latham base hit to put the Lady Bears on top 2-1.
 
Shelby Mason's RBI double in the top of the 7th gave the Lady Bears their final run of the game.
 
Jensen Gremillion picked up the complete-game win in the circle, giving up a run on 6 hits and a walk. She struck out 12 batters.
 
Madison Moak had two singles for the Lady Bears.
 
Halee Jenkins' two-out, two-RBI double in the top of the 1st gave the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead in game two.
 
After Northwest scored a run in the bottom of the 2nd, the Lady Bears made it 3-1 on Jenkin's two-out base hit (she later added a third hit) in the top of the 3rd.
 
In the bottom of the 3rd, Northwest sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs to take a 5-3 lead.
 
The Lady Bears trimmed their deficit to 5-4 on Brock's two-out double, her second hit of the game, in their half of the 4th.
 
Northwest then exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the 4th to extend their lead to 15-4.
 
The Lady Bears picked up their final runs in the top of the 5th, getting runs on an Ashleigh Rowland sacrifice fly, Macie Miley single and when Moak reached on a fielder's choice to reach the final score.
 
Gremillion took the loss in the circle in relief, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits and a walk in 1inning in the circle. She struck out 1 batter.
 
Latham and Mason both had a pair of singles in the game while Rowland had a double.
 
The Lady Bears make their final push for a spot in the conference tournament on April 28 in Decatur when they take on East Central. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00.
