Jackson gets 100th win as Bears split with Northeast

The Bears exploded for six runs in the 6th inning on their way to a 10-7 win in game one of their MACCC doubleheader with visiting Northeast Mississippi Sunday afternoon. The win gave Ken Jackson his 100th as Bears head coach.
 
Northeast came back to gain a split in the twin bill with a 10-4 win in game two.
 
Northeast held a 5-0 win after two inning of the opener and held the lead until the Bears 6th.
 
In the bottom of the 6th, Jonathan Havard and Jerod Williams both had an RBI double while Ajani Johnson and Brady Tynes both had an RBI single (Tynes later a double and second single). Presley Hall score a run with a sacrifice fly and Ilich Purcell scored on an error. When the dust had settled, the Bears were in the lead, 6-5.
 
Havard drove in a run with a double and Purcell had a run-scoring single in the 7th to increase the Bears' lead to 8-5.
 
Hall's second sacrifice fly and Havard's third RBI double in the 8th left the Bears with a 10-5 advantage.
 
A walk and three errors resulted in two runs for Northeast (17-19, 10-14) in the top of the 9th, but that proved to be the end of the scoring as the Bears held on to give Jackson his milestone win.
 
Braxton Cooksey picked up the win on the mound, giving up 6 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. He struck out 6 batters.
 
Jacob McDaniel gave up an unearned run on 1 hits in 1 inning to record the save. He struck out 2 batters.
 
Braydon Coffey had a double for the Bears.
 
The Bears trailed 7-0 in the finale before Havard's lead-off homer in the bottom of the 4th cut their deficit to 7-1.
 
Gage Gregory's solo homer to leftfield in the bottom of the 5th further trimmed the Bears' deficit to 7-2.
 
After Northeast added three runs in the top of the 7th to increase their lead to 10-2, Havard's double in the bottom of the inning (his fourth run-scoring double of the day) ended the scoring.
 
McDaniel took the loss on the mound, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits in 3 innings. He struck out 3 batters.
 
Tynes had 3 singles for the Bears (6-26, 5-19).
 
The Bears return to the diamond on April 20 with a 3:00 home doubleheader against 15th-ranked East Central.
