Lady Bears close Sophomore Day with sweep of Mississippi Delta

The 17-th ranked Lady Bears closed out Sophomore Day, and their final home date of the season, with a 10-2, 8-1 MACCC sweep of the Lady Trojans of Mississippi Delta Sunday afternoon. Game one was stopped after the 5th inning.

After the Lady Trojans scored a run in the top of the 1st inning in the opener, the Lady Bears (19-11, 11-9) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on a
Bailey Buckley two-run homer to left field. Buckley would later add a double.

The score went to 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd on Halee Jenkins' run-scoring double. She also had a pair of singles in the game.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Lady Bears sent 12 batters to the plate and close out the game with seven runs.

Jensen Gremillion picked up the win in the circle, allowing a run on two hits and a walk. She struck out seven batters.

Jenna Brock had three singles in the game for the Lady Bears while Shelby Mason had two. Mel Lewis had a double.

A bases-loaded walk to Maggie Magee, Jenkins' two-RBI single and a Macie Miley RBI-single had the Lady Bears up 4-0 after an inning of game two.

Lewis' two-RBI base hit in the 2nd inning increased the Lady Bears' lead to 6-0. Lewis would later added another single.

The Lady Trojans (3-27, 3-17) scored their only run of the finale in the top of the 3rd to make the score 6-1.

The Lady Bears would go on to add two more runs, the last on a Madison Moak RBI-single (her second hit of the game). 

Jade Latham picked up the win in the circle. In 3 innings pitched, she surrendered a run on three hits and a walk while striking out three.

The Lady Bears return to the diamond on April 14 when they travel to Poplarville to face Pearl River. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00.
