Bears drop a pair at home to 12th-ranked Meridian

The Bears fell to the 12th-ranked Meridian Eagles in a pair of MACCC contests Thursday afternoon, 16-6 and 11-1, both in five innings.
 
The Bears trailed game one 4-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning. Brady Tynes led off the frame for the Bears with a double and scored two batters later to make the score 4-1.
 
Meridian (19-7, 11-5) led 16-1 when the Bears came to bat in their half of the 5th.  Jerod Williams blasted a three-run homer to right field and Gage Gregory followed with a solo shot to center before a bases-loaded walk to Braydon Coffey scored what proved to be the final runs of the game.
 
Logan Hartfield took the loss on the mound, giving up 11 runs (7 earned) on 6 hits and a pair of walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out 1 batter.
 
Austin Willis doubled for the Bears.
 
The Bears scored their only run of the nightcap in the bottom of the 4th when Gregory led off with a double and scored on a one-out single by Braydon Coffey.
 
Jacob McDaniel took the loss for the Bears (5-19, 4-12), giving up 7 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks in 2 innings. He struck out 1 batter.
 
The Bears return to the diamond on April 7 when they travel to Perkinston to face Mississippi Gulf Coast. Game one of the conference doubleheader is slated for a 3:00 first pitch.
