Bears drop a pair at East Mississippi

The Bears were defeated in a pair of MACCC contests in Scooba Tuesday afternoon, falling to East Mississippi 7-6 in game one before dropping game two 12-1 in five innings.
 
The Bears led the opener 4-1 after one inning. An RBI single by Brady Tynes and a three-run homer from Presley Hall accounted for the Bears' runs. Tynes later added second single.
 
Two hit batters with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 2nd cut the Bears' lead to 4-3. East Mississippi (12-12, 5-11) then added two runs in the 5th and one in the 6th innings to take a 6-4 lead.
 
Mason Barker led off the Bears' 9th inning with a solo homer to left field, the last of his three hits in the game. Then, with two outs, Braydon Coffey sent a ball over the left field fence to tie the game at 6-6.
 
East Mississippi then got a lead-off homer in the bottom of the 9th to get the win.
 
Ilich Purcell took the loss on the mound for the Bears in relief, allowing a pair of runs on two hits and five walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out three batters.
 
Braxton Cooksey had a double for the Bears (5-17, 4-10).
 
With two outs in the top of the 1st in the finale, Gage Gregory singled to left then scored on a Tynes double to put the Bears up 1-0.
 
East Mississippi then sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs in the rain-delayed bottom of the 1st to take a 12-1 lead. They would go on to win by the same score.
 
Chase Guitreau took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs on five hits and two walks.
 
The Bears return to the diamond on April 1 with a 3:00 home conference doubleheader against 12th-ranked Meridian.
