Bears fall twice at 14th-ranked Itawamba

The Bears were defeated in a pair of MACCC games to 14th-ranked Itawamba Monday afternoon in Fulton, falling 11-2 in game one and 6-5 in game two. The opener was stopped after seven innings.
 
The Bears trailed 5-0 after an inning of the opener. In the top of the 2nd, Brady Tynes led off with the first of his two base hits and later scored when Easton Porter doubled. Mason Barker then hit a two-bagger to right to send Porter home to trim the Bears' deficit to 5-2. Barker would later add a second double and a single.
 
Itawamba (5-7, 11-3) would score twice more in their half of the 4th and four times in the 6th to complete the scoring.
 
Blayze Boyd took the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and a pair of walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out two batters.
 
Jerod Williams singled twice in the game while Porter and Austin Willis had a double.
 
Itawamba took a 1-0 first-inning lead in game two. The Bears then tied in in the top of the 2nd on Tynes' lead-off homer to right field.
 
In the 3rd, RBI singles from Williams and Tynes put the Bears on top 3-1. Three hits resulted in two runs for Itawamba in the bottom of the inning to leave the teams tied 3-3.
 
The Bears (5-15, 4-8) took the lead for the last time, 5-3, in the top of the 4th with on a Williams run-scoring single and a Gage Gregory sacrifice fly.
 
Itawamba scored a run in their half of the 4th and another in the 5th to tie the game at 5-5. They then scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the 7th.
 
Jacob McDaniel took the loss on the mound in relief, giving up a run on one hit and three walks in 1.2 innings. He struck out one batter.
 
Barker singled twice in the game.
 
The Bears return to play on March 30 with a pair of makeup games at East Mississippi. Game one of the conference doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00.
